2025 Flu Vaccines Now Available at Mentone General Practice

Protect yourself and your loved ones this flu season—book your 2025 flu vaccination at Mentone General Practice today.

Influenza (the flu) is a common viral infection that can affect anyone. While some people recover in a few days, others can develop serious complications leading to hospitalisation—even if they were previously healthy.

At Mentone General Practice, we are now offering the latest 2025 flu vaccines, designed to protect against the strains most likely to circulate this year.

Why You Need a Flu Shot Every Year

The flu virus changes each year. That’s why the vaccine is updated annually, and yearly vaccination is essential for continued protection. The 2025 vaccine is tailored to match the circulating strains, ensuring the most effective defence.

Who Should Get the Flu Vaccine?

Everyone aged 6 months and over is encouraged to get the flu vaccine. It’s particularly important for:

  • Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
  • Pregnant women (at any stage of pregnancy)
  • People aged 65 and over
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and over
  • People with certain medical conditions (e.g. heart, lung, kidney disease, diabetes, weakened immunity)

If you’re not sure whether you’re eligible for a free vaccine under the National Immunisation Program (NIP), our team can help you find out.

Free Flu Vaccine Eligibility in 2025

Under the NIP, free flu vaccines are available for:

  • Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
  • Pregnant women
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Adults aged 65 and over
  • Individuals with specific chronic medical conditions

If you’re not eligible for a free vaccine, you can still get vaccinated at a low cost. We’ll discuss all options with you during your visit.

Safe and Effective

The flu vaccine has been used for decades and is very safe. Side effects are usually mild—such as a sore arm or low-grade fever—and go away in a day or two. The vaccine does not contain a live virus and cannot give you the flu.

People with egg allergies, including those with a history of anaphylaxis, can safely receive the vaccine. Just let us know beforehand.

Pregnant? Protect Yourself and Your Baby

Getting vaccinated during pregnancy not only protects you but also passes antibodies to your baby, keeping them safe in the early months of life when they are too young for their own flu shot. The vaccine is safe at any stage of pregnancy and can be given alongside other recommended vaccines, such as whooping cough and COVID-19.

When to Book

The flu season in Australia typically peaks from June to September, but cases can occur all year round. Vaccines are now available at Mentone General Practice. For best protection, we recommend getting vaccinated in March or April.

How to Book

Simply book online or call our reception team to schedule your appointment. Flu shots can be given alone or alongside other routine vaccines.
